5 Things to Know Today, Wednesday, Sept. 5

Good morning, here are five things to know today:

Three more human cases of West Nile Virus have been confirmed in Middlesex County and the threat level is being raised in several communitites including Medford, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  In response, the DPH has raised the WNV threat level to "high" in the following communities: Chelsea, Everett, Lexington, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Revere, Saugus and Winthrop. Also, the threat level is being raised to "moderate" in other towns: Bedford, Burlington, Lincoln, Stoneham, Wakefield, Winchester and Woburn.

Weather: There's an 80 percent chance of rain today with highs expected around 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There's only a 20 percent chance of rain tomorrow with similar highs expected.

Massachusetts State Auditor Suzanne Bump vouched for President Barack Obama's record on jobs while jabbing at former Gov. Mitt Romney's job-creation credentials during an appearance Monday at the Democratic National Convention. "Mitt Romney talked about his focus being on jobs … the reality is that he was not a job creator when he was in Massachusetts," said Bump at a Massachusetts delegation breakfast. "He used the same tired strategies of Republicans before him."

: Tragedy was avoided at Medford's Wright's Pond earlier this summer when an unconscious 3-year-old girl was pulled from the water by two other young swimmers and revived by lifeguards, according to city officials. Semrawit Ghebrelul spent a day in the hospital after the Aug. 17 incident, but has fully recovered. Her rescuers were presented with Keys to the City by Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn Friday. Sky Trapella, 12, and Sophie Bendoch, 10, were swimming at the city-operated area in the afternoon on Aug. 17 when they noticed a young girl submerged in the water and not moving. Bendoch touched the girl, and she didn't respond. That's when Trapella started shouting for her father, Emanuel. "I wasn't scared, I was just thinking, 'Okay, I've got to get my dad," she said.
