Alleged Bank Robbery Accessory Now Faces Unarmed Robbery Charge of His Own

Shawn Fitzgibbon is charged with armed robbery.

Already facing a charge of accessory after the fact stemming from a robbery at Eastern Bank on June 15, Shawn Fitzgibbon now faces an unarmed robbery charge of his own from a job at the same bank earlier that week.

Fitzgibbon, 30, of 48 Cummings St. is charged with armed robbery for allegedly robbing the Eastern Bank on Locust Street of $2,200 on June 11, according to court records. He was arrested at his home about 4 p.m. Friday, June 22 and arraigned in Somerville District Court Monday morning, where his bail was set at $2,500, according to court records.

Nearly all of the case's court file was impounded at the request of prosecutors, who asked the reports be withheld from the public to protect bank employees serving as witnesses.

Fitzgibbon also faces a pending charge of accessory after the fact stemming from the June 15 robbery of the same bank. On that occassion, a woman later identified as Gina Muccini, 35, who is Fitzgibbon's girlfriend, entered the branch about 10 a.m. and passed the teller a note demanding cash, police said. When she fled, bank employees chased her to 48 Cummings St. where police set up a perimeter.

She did not respond to requests to come out of the home and police saw Fitzgibbon inside attempting to barricade the back door with a piece of wood, according to a police report. Police entered the home by force and arrested both Muccini and Fitzgibbon.
