Around the Region: Somerville Police Make Bicycle Violation Arrest, Underage Prostitution Busted in Malden

An Allston man likely would have pedaled away with nothing more than a verbal warning had he stopped for police. Instead, 28-year-old Ryoji Uyehara allegedly led police cruisers on a short chase and became the first person to be arrested in Somerville for , according to Deputy Chief Paul Upton of the Somerville Police Department. An officer tried to stop Uyehara as he travelled on Tufts Street during "do not enter hours," and he allegedly refused to stop, leading police on a brief chase before his arrest. -Chris Orchard

Malden Police arrested three men in connection with a federal investigation breaking up underage prostitution networks, an FBI press release said yesterday. The arrests were part of a nation-wide inter-agency investigation conducted by the Bureau called “Operation Cross Country,” which targeted such human trafficking networks. "Malden Police has always been concerned about the ongoing problem of child exploitation, specifically child prostitution,” Malden Police Lt. Marc Gatcomb said in the release. -Chris Caesar

A young male told police Wednesday evening that he had been assaulted by two teenage males near “sketch bench” on the bike path Monday afternoon. The male told Arlington Police that he was walking west on the bike path, between Water and Mill streets, at about 2:45 p.m. Monday when the two males, whom he pegged at 18 to 19 years old, confronted him. He said both teenagers were wearing black pants and black-and-red polos. He said the teenagers asked him if he had anything on him, any weed or money, to which he replied, “No.” He said one of the teenagers then punched him in the left cheek, knocking him to the ground. He said the teenagers punched him in the head about four more times while he was on the ground. He eventually blacked out for about a half-hour, he told police, until his friend came upon him. -John Waller

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has reversed their decision to close this summer, according to an announcement by State Sen. Katherine Clark. At Tuesday night's Stoneham Board of Selectmen session at , Clark and Laura Richter, a representative with State Rep. Jason Lewis' office, informed the board of the pool's opening. “It will take two weeks minimum to get water and staffing up,” said Clark. The pool is expected to be open in mid-to-late July, according to the senator.
