: If Monday night is any indication, Mayor Rob Dolan and the Melrose Police unions are headed toward combative collective bargaining negotiations this coming year. Melrose Police officers and some of their family members filled the Aldermanic Chambers on Monday in a show of union solidarity as the Melrose Board of Aldermen approved spending $16,000 on two audits of the police department requested by Dolan. -Daniel DeMaina

Thursday night, as members of the Occupy Boston movement braced for a potential confrontation with police in Boston's Dewey Square – a confrontation that didn't occur, it turns out – protesters had an unusual reason to celebrate. Two members of the crowd, Aaron Spagnolo, 33, and Nanore Barsoumian, 28, decided to hold an impromptu vow exchange with one of the chaplains of Occupy Boston. The couple, from Somerville, had been engaged for a year. “You know, we kept taking about it, every time there's a protest or something like this – 'why don't we just get married in the middle of it?'” Spagnolo joked. “...Well, the chaplain is here, and I said, 'what the heck, let's just do it.'” -Chris Caesar

Somerville resident Irina Kristy, 74, faces several charges related to what law enforcement officials called a meth lab found in her home last month. Kristy, a math professor who has lectured at both Boston and Suffolk universities, with distribution of meth, conspiracy and committing drug violations in a school/park zone, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.

A body found in Spy Pond in Arlington Tuesday has been identified as Cameron Raudonis-Blicker, 23, of Derry, N.H. Officials are still waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause of death, a county attorney spokeswoman said. Arlington police Chief Fred Ryan said the, which had hampered the identification process.

A Malden man who survived the horrors of the Warsaw Ghetto during the Nazi Holocaust has died. Sevek “Joe” Fishman, 93, of Malden, was buried in Sharon, MA Sunday, and is survived by 3 children and ten grandchildren. Fishman, well-known to his customers, ran Fishman Tailor Quality Plus on Summer Street in Malden.
