Here are some of the top headlines from just beyond Medford's bounds:

Emily Kelly, who described herself as "yet another Harvard big head appearing on Jeopardy," was on the Jan. 27 episode of the show and nearly pulled off a win. Kelly, a university librarian from Somerville, according to J! Archive (a Jeopardy fan website), had a one-dollar lead going into Final Jeopardy, but had to engage in some aggressive wagering in an effort to fend off the previous day's champion, Brendan Graham, from San Antonio, Texas. Unfortunately, she missed the last question and Graham walked away with a second win, the website notes. -Chris Orchard

The  closed its doors for good Saturday night. Stu Mayerson announced on the bar's website he was closing it Saturday night (1/28/2012) after owning it "more than 10 years." The message was short on details, though he thanked customers for their support in the wake of “bittersweet news.” “It's been a great time meeting and serving all of you, and doing business in this neighborhood these past years,” he wrote. “So from myself and my staff, thank you!” -Chris Caesar

: Wakefield Police detectives have officially charged Michael Gallella, 30, as the man responsible for robbing the in Wakefield at knife point on January 17.Gallella, who lists an address in Malden, was arrested for allegedly robbing in Hamilton at knifepoint on Saturday. In addition to the Wakefield and Hamilton robberies, he is also suspected to be responsible for a number of other robberies in the area, including Marblehead, Reading, and Saugus. -Sara Jacobi

When Capt. John Surabian takes a phone call it usually involves a frightened individual regarding a fire, but this time it was different. “I received a call on my cell phone and home phone from a number I did not know, so I let my voicemail pick it up,” Surabian said. “The person on the other end identified themselves as Andre Tippett (former New England Patriots linebacker and NFL Hall of Fame Inductee) and at first, I thought I was being pranked by some coworkers, but decided to call the number and sure enough it was Mr. Andre Tippett to congratulate me.” Surabian was one of 10 winners of the Patriot promotion of “Super Bowl for Super People.” He was chosenby a lottery. There were two individuals chosen from each of the following occupations: Firefighter, police officer, school teacher, military and nurses. -Chris Chirichiello

Town officials are planning a retirement party for outgoing Town Manager Brian Sullivan, who is set to retire later this month. On Monday, the  chose Deputy Town Manager  to replace  as Arlington’s top administrator. Chapdelaine will begin on Feb. 24. On Feb. 16, officials will hold a retirement party fo Sulllivan. has worked as Arlington’s top administrator for eight years and announced last year he would retire.
