Brush Fires Near Medford High Quickly Doused
Small brush fires were in a difficult location, fire officials said.
A few small brush fires off wooded trails near Medford High School were quickly put out Monday afternoon, a fire official said.
A passerby on the trail reported the fires about 3:30 p.m. Monday, and they were extinguished by about 4:15 p.m.
The fires were small, but located about a quarter-mile to half-mile along a trail from near the vocational school entrance, which made it difficult to access with water, fire Lt. Stephen Blute said. Crews had to use 10-gallon tanks strapped to their backs to bring water to the area.

"It was nothing big, but the location was tough," Blute said.
There were about three or four small areas that caught fire, Blute said. About 20 square yards in all were burned. No one was hurt and no cause had been determined Monday afternoon.
