
The Chevalier Theatre has been selected as recipient of a grant to modernize its heating and cooling systems.
Medford was one of eight communities in Massachusetts selected for a Green Communities Competitive Grant, handed out through the Department of Energy Resources.
The money is earmarked for converting the theatre's heating system, implementing domestic hot water separation, steam lines insulation, trap survey and repairs, according to a press release from Governor Deval Patrick.

Earlier in June, Medford Energy Efficiency Coordinator Alicia Hunt told City Councilors she had applied for the grant and hoped to find out whether it was awarded soon.
In all, $1.6 million in grants for projects was awarded.

“The clean energy revolution sweeping Massachusetts is happening largely because of the bold steps and smart decisions made at the local level," state energy secretary Rick Sullivan said in a written statement. “I am pleased we are able to offer funding to allow these communities to continue the good work they’ve begun.” Â
