Motorcyclist Dies After Medford Tractor-Trailer Crash

A 23-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle struck the cab of a tractor-trailer that was turning into the Meadow Glen Mall.

MEDFORD, MA — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Medford Friday.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 23-year-old Chelsea man, was riding a 2007 Yamaha YZF R1 that struck the tractor-trailer's cab. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital following the crash, where he was pronounced dead.

State police said the crash happened around 8 a.m. on the westbound side of Route 16. The motorcycle was driving in the breakdown lane and passing vehicles in the travel lanes before hitting the passenger side of the truck, police said.

The tractor-trailer was turning into the parking lot of Meadow Glen Mall at the time of the crash.

Route 16 was partially closed for about three hours Friday. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
