Early Voting Underway For Medford City Council Preliminary Election

The preliminary election will narrow down the large group of candidates before November.

MEDFORD, MA — Early voting is now taking place for the Preliminary City Council Election in the Alden Memorial Chambers at City Hall.

The purpose of the preliminary election is to narrow the 17 candidates running for city council this year to 14 prior to the city-wide election in November. All seven seats are up for reelection this year, with six out of seven incumbents seeking reelection. The candidates include incumbent and current President Zac Bears, incumbent Emily Lazarro, incumbent Matt Leming, incumbent Justin Tseng, incumbent George Scarpelli, incumbent Anna Callahan, Miranda Briseño, Page Buldini, Patrick Clerkin, Rick Caraviello, Paul Donato Jr., Nicholas Giurleo, Liz Mullane, Trish Schiapelli, Melanie Tringali, Nate Merritt, and Milva McDonald. Giurleo, Scarpelli, Tringali, Donato Jr., Caraveillo, Merritt, and Clerkin are all registered as Independents.

Incumbent and current Vice President Kit Collins is the only incumbent who is not seeking reelection.

Early voting is ongoing through Friday, Sept. 12 each day beginning at 8:30 a.m. The preliminary election is officially on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
