Greater Boston League Hits Pause On High School Sports

The conference, which includes Medford, Malden and Somerville, halted practices and games for the rest of the week due to the COVID surge.

The Greater Boston League is temporarily suspending all high school athletics due to the latest surge in COVID-19 cases.

The athletic conference, which is made up of high schools in Medford, Somerville, Malden, Everett, Chelsea, Revere and Lynn, has paused practices until Saturday, Jan. 8 and games until Tuesday, Jan. 11.

"It is the hope of league officials that this stoppage will allow our member schools to focus on policies and procedures for all student-athletes and coaches to ensure that we can continue to provide the safest possible environment for competitions," the Greater Boston League said in a statement.

League officials said each district will establish their own policy for spectators at competitions, and visiting teams must adhere to that policy.
