Interstate 93 Road Closure Tuesday Night

The highway's southbound lanes will be closed overnight from Mystic Avenue to Albany Street.

Interstate 93 southbound through Medford and into Boston will be closed from 11 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Drivers heading south into Boston will need to take local surface roads during that time.

During the closure, traffic along the highway will be diverted onto local roads at Mystic Avenue/Route 38 (which seems to refer to Exit 30 in Somerville and Medford) and allowed to re-enter the highway at Albany Street (after Exit 20).

Drivers trying to get onto I-90 westbound will do so south of Kneeland Street.

The closure will allow maintenance crews to work on the Lower Deck, Zakim Bridge and O’Neill Tunnel. They will work on "tunnel wall and sign washing, drain clearing and maintenance, as well as maintenance of electrical and communications systems," according to MassDOT.
