MassDOT Exploring Expanded Transit Options At Wellington Circle

An ongoing study is analyzing ways to improve connectivity and mobility across various modes of transportation.

MEDFORD, MA — MassDOT will hold its third working group public meeting on the Wellington Circle Study next Tuesday, Aug. 31.

Launched in fall 2020, the study analyzes ways to improve connectivity and mobility throughout the Wellington Circle area in Medford. The study examines vehicular, public transit, bicycle, pedestrian and land use and considers cost, and resulting economic, social and cultural impacts.

The study is part of a larger group of mitigation commitments by Encore Boston Harbor, which includes improvements at Santilli and Sweetser Circles and other infrastructure and travel demand management services.

At a meeting in late May, the working group and members of the public considered opportunities, as well as constraints, presented by the area infrastructure. For example, wide roads and an expected increase in population density can allow for more connectivity among neighborhoods and multi-use roadways.

The next public meeting will be held Aug. 31 from 2-3:30 p.m.
