"As a life-long Medford resident, I'm proud to have stayed in the city and raised my family in our public school system. Together, we’ve made great strides in our educational system and as a former educator and school committee member myself, I know first-hand how vital a quality public education for all is to develop, foster, and grow a community," Scarpelli said. "I’m privileged to have served the people of Medford for the past 10 years, and I am heartened to see how many new families are moving into our great city to live, work, and raise a family. I’ve worked hard to move Medford forward, and I want to continue that work for another two years as your city councilor."

Scarpelli has coached Medford High School's soccer, basketball and baseball teams and was one of the driving forces behind the creation of Medford's first Recreation Department. He has been lauded as a proponent of clean and green energy, sponsoring initiatives to convert public lights to LED – which saved the city more than $250,000 – banning the use of plastic bags and working to make the roads safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, according to his campaign announcement.

Scarpelli supported the construction of a new state-of-the-art library, media center and police station, and worked to bring the Green Line Extension into Medford and expand transit-oriented economic development and long-term capital investment in the city's aging infrastructure. He has also been a vocal supporter of Medford's senior community.

Scarpelli pledged to "continue to build upon the great success Medford has enjoyed, and always work collaboratively with my colleagues and the administration to move Medford forward."
