Medford Driver Strikes Man in Wheelchair

A man riding in a motorized wheelchair was struck by a pickup truck in Somerville Monday afternoon.

The accident took place at Central and Albion Streets, the Somerville Journal reports.

The driver, Wayne Stevens, of Medford, was driving down Central Street and the man in the wheelchair was traveling on the same street in the opposite direction. The collision happened when the man in the wheelchair abruptly changed direction.

Stevens said the wheelchair rider drove “right in front” of his truck.

The victim was transported to the hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
