Medford Legion Baseball Fighting for Tourney Spot

Post 45 seeks to finish in the top 4 to make the sectional tournament.

Medford Post 45 fell to Sudbury, but the team still leads its division in the American Legion Baseball season.

Post 45 could not overcome a 6-0 deficit to fellow division leader Sudbury, and fell 8-5 on Tuesday. Starting pitcher John Lavoie played while battling the flu, according to a report on Boston.com.

The loss dropped Medford to 9-3-1, but they remain on top of District 5 Zone B, three points ahead of Tyngsboro and Lowell (two points for a win, one for a tie), according to the American Legion District 5 website.

Coach Ryan Kozul’s Post 45 team has seven games left, and continues to battle to make the sectional playoffs. Sudbury has the most points with 26, followed by Hudson, with 22. Ashland is one point behind Post 45.

Medford hosts Hudson and Ashland in the final two home games of the regular season.

Post 45 has a dozen players from Medford High School, five Arlington Catholic players and one from Everett High.
