The Medford National Little League team has a crucial matchup with Newton South East Friday evening in the Little League Sectional tournament. On the line is a berth in the Section 3 final, the winner of which goes to the State Finals. Medford trounced East Boston 23-0 in the first game of the sectionals on Wednesday night. On Thursday, the team was not as fortunate, falling 9-2 to Walpole at Morrison Field in Westwood. All four teams in the sectionals come into Friday's games with a record of 1-1, so the winners of the games will advance to the section final, on Saturday, July 20. Medford National advanced to the sectionals after winning the District 10 tournament, which also included West Medford Hillside and North Medford. Medford beat Melrose National 8-7 in the district final.
