Medford Native Creates Scholarship in Honor of Bombing Victim

The scholarship was established at UMass-Boston, which Campbell attended.

Richard Campbell is not blood related to Krystle Campbell, but the Medford native and UMass trustee felt such a strong link to the 29-year-old who lost her life in the Boston Marathon bombings that he created a fund in her name.

After realizing that, like him, Krystle had graduated from Medford High School and paid her way through UMass-Boston, Campbell decided to honor her memory, he told the Boston Globe.

Campbell and his wife Barbara donated $300,000 to start the fund and he hopes that it will eventually reach $1 million, according to the Globe. The money will go to students interested in pursuing a career in business, with a preference to female students, the report said.
