Medford Participating In National Data-gathering Initiative

The Point in Time Count takes a census on the homeless population to better understand how it can assist.

MEDFORD, MA — The city is seeking volunteers to participate in the Point in Time Count, as it has elected to participate in the national effort for 2025.

The count is organized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the state's Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, in which a census is conducted on homeless people for the goal of gathering data to guide funding and resources for the struggling individuals. The count is slated begin on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 29 and continue throughout the entire night.

Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said that the count will directly assist improving the living conditions of unhoused people in Medford.

“Giving agency to those who are unhoused and ensuring a connection with professionals who can help is a crucial step toward ending homelessness,” Lungo-Koehn said.

Community members can volunteer for the initiative online.
