Interim Police Chief Picked In Medford
The current chief is on extended leave of absence.
MEDFORD, MA — Captain Paul Covino has been appointed Provisional Police Chief while Chief Jack Buckley is on extended leave, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced Monday.
Covino has spent the last 40 years working his way through the ranks of the Medford Police Department, including time spent as a leader in the department’s night patrol and Investigative Services Bureau. Lungo-Koehn expressed utmost confidence in Covino, calling him an exemplary leader.
“I’m honored to be given the opportunity to serve in the interim as Chief of this department,” Covino said. “I have learned so much from Chief Buckley over my years at MPD and I hope to make him and the community proud while I’m in this role.”

Covino will begin his role as Provisional Police Chief on Tuesday, June 10.
