Police Nab Suspect In Stoneham Bank Robbery

A Hingham man accused of an unarmed robbery in Stoneham has also been connected to holdups in surrounding towns .

An individual from Hingham has been arrested and charged with robbing the 323 Main St. Bank of America in Stoneham in early May.

The odds that he’s involved with four other unarmed holdups are pretty good, according to a statement from Stoneham Police. His alleged past targets include a Citizens Bank in Quincy, a Brookline Bank in Medford, a Randolph Savings Bank, and a Dedham Savings Bank.

Police tracked down the suspect, James Twombly, 28, via posting surveillance footage from the May 4 Stoneham robbery online. Numerous tipsters, including some alerted via local news outlets, led police to believe their suspect was Twombly - who was nabbed in Kingston without incident.

According to police, both Twombly’s driver’s license and parole officer indicate that he is the man they’re looking for.

“It is through the help of the public that we were able to identify this suspect,” said Stoneham Police Chief James McIntyre, in a statement from the department. “I also applaud the work of the detectives from the other communities involved in this case. It was truly a joint effort that we were able to apprehend this suspect.”
