St. Clement Student to Audition Before Simon Cowell

Charlestown's own 15-year-old soul singer is trying out for a chance to perform on FOX's XFactor.

St. Clement School’s own Dennis Taylor will be singing this week in front of Simon Cowell, the infamous critic from American Idol and XFactor.

In fact, Taylor -- a 15-year-old self-taught soul singer from the neighborhood -- could well be on his way to competing on FOX’s XFactor.

It started last week when Taylor submitted a video to the local FOX affiliate – an entry, essentially, that got him a chance to participate locally in an open audition for XFactor.

“The video was due at midnight on Thursday,” Taylor’s mother, Michelle Buckley, told Patch. “At 9:30 p.m., Dennis decided to send it over.” The next day, they got a call from FOX saying Taylor was selected for the audition.

Early Tuesday, Taylor and his mom headed over to the FOX News studio on Boston Common. He performed live at 9 a.m. (“The Worst that Could Happen” by the Brooklyn Bridge) with four other finalists in the audition.

Within a few hours Taylor got the call asking him to go to New Jersey this Thursday for a meeting with Cowell.
