The longest-serving mayor in the Commonwealth was re-elected to his 13th term Tuesday. Michael McGlynn topped challenger Anthony D'Antonio in Tuesday's local election. McGlynn received 5,721 votes to D'Antonio's 3,174. McGlynn celebrated the victory with friends, supporters and other candidates at a party at the Hyatt Place Hotel Tuesday night. "I'm overwhelmed with the results," McGlynn said. "It's a warm feeling to know people still have the trust and confidence in your judgement to move the city forward." For D'Antonio, it was his first try at elected office. After hearing the results at city hall Tuesday, he vowed to try again. "I believe in the city and I believe it needs to be fixed," D'Antonio said. "It's a start - I'm not giving up."

In years past, the last day of the semester ended with scores of Tufts University students running naked around the residential quad on campus, often in chilly, snowy conditions.  The end of this semester was different. The "naked quad run," as it was called—a Tufts University tradition since the 1970s—was banned by the university earlier in the year, and the university administration threatened students with semester-long suspension for participating in the event. On the night of Dec. 12, students responded by staging the opposite of a naked quad run. In what they called "the excessively overdressed quad stroll," students wore costumes and absurd outfits as they walked slowly around the quad.

Nancy Pelosi took the stage at Cohen Auditorium on the Tufts campus on the afternoon of April 8 with the federal budget in gridlock in Washington. "Minute to minute, hour to hour, we're getting reports," Pelosi said. "As long as we don't have to take something to the floor, I can be with you right now." Pelosi was the guest for the inaugural Alan D. Solomont lecture. She took the stage shortly after 2 p.m. April 8, gave a brief speech, then answered questions from Solomont, a Tufts alumnus who is the U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra. President Barack Obama reached a deal with Republican leaders to prevent a government shutdown late that night.
