The following notes are compiled from media releases from Tufts University's athletic department:

Holm Named Assistant of the Year

Lacrosse Assistant Coach Brett Holm was honored as the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2010 season. Holm directed the defensive unit for a Jumbo team that won the University's first-ever NCAA team title. Under Holm's direction, the Tufts defense played its best on the sport's biggest stage, holding Salisbury to six goals in the National Championship Game. Holm has coordinated all aspects of the team's defense for the past three years.

Women's Soccer Stars Make All-New England

Senior defender Sarah Nolet, Los Altos, Calif., junior midfielder Alix Michael Mercer Island, Wash. and junior forward Jamie Love-Nichols Cortez, Colo. are the Jumbos were selected as first team All-New England by National Soccer Coaches Association of America. It's the first season that Tufts put three players on the NSCAA All-New England squads since 2007. The Jumbos finished 2010 with an 8-2-4 overall record.

Men's Squash Close Semester With Three Straight

The Tufts University men's squash team scored a trio of victories last Sunday to wrap up their first semester of action with a 4-6 record. The Jumbos defeated local rivals Boston University 8-1, MIT 8-1 and Boston College 6-3. Senior captain Alex Gross was 3-0 in the top spot. Senior Ben Rind swept the day to finish the semester with a 6-4 record. Junior Hank Miller battled to two four-game victories during a 3-0 weekend.

Women's Basketball Blows Out Emerson

The women's team out-scored Emerson 38-15 in the second half  on the way to defeating the Lions 72-46 on Tuesday. The teams were tied at 10 with just under 15 minutes to play in the first half when Tufts sophomore Collier Clegg hit a jumper to give the Jumbos a lead they would never relinquish. Senior Colleen Hart led all scorers with 19 points. Hart was also named New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor.

Women's Squash Closes Semester With a Win

The Tufts women's squash team finished the first semester with a 4-4 record after defeating Boston College, 7-2, in the last match of the first semester last Sunday at MIT.

Men's Basketball Edges Salem State

All five Tufts University starters scored in double figures and junior Alex Orchowski added 22 rebounds to power the Jumbos to an 80-71 win over Salem State University in the opening round of the second annual New England Big 4 Men's Basketball Challenge at Babson College last Saturday afternoon.

Orchowski was a monster in the paint for Tufts, scoring 13 points on 6 of 12 shooting while grabbing a game-high 22 boards and blocking three shots.

Koleini's 40-save effort propels Hockey Team to Win

Senior Dylan Cooper scored two goals and junior goalie Evin Koleini made 43 saves as the Tufts University hockey team held on for a 4-3 victory against Saint Anselm College in NESCAC/ECAC East crossover action on Saturday afternoon at Valley Forum II. Koleini saved all 27 Saint Anselm shots that he faced in the first two periods.
