New Carroll's Restaurant Will Have Water Views

Medford Square eatery eyes opening early next year.

As demolition work goes on inside 21 Main Street, Maury Carroll continues to work on the permitting process for the new Carroll's restaurant planned to open there.

Carroll's will feature about a 140-seat capacity, a bar area and three large windows facing the Mystic River, Carroll said in a phone interview Wednesday.  , but it's going to take a little longer to get everything in order, he said.

"We'd like to open at the end of January," Carroll said. "That may be in a perfect world. When you're building, you’re at everybody’s mercy."

Carroll received permission from the city's conservation commission last month to cut openings for three windows facing the river. The city council gave him permission to install three awnings with the restaurants logo on Tuesday. The application was originally denied by the city because it did not fall in line with size and quantity regulations.

The three awnings will be illuminated by goose-neck lights and won't be overwhelming, Carroll said.

"It’s not going to be overkill by any means," he said.

The space will join the lot at 21 Main St. - the - and the 19 Main St. lot, which used to be a nail salon and has a side wall facing the Mystic River. Details on the interior design of the restaurant haven't been worked out yet, Carroll said. The restaurant will feature American style cuisine.

The original Carroll's was located at 101 Main Street from the 1930's until 1986.
