5 Melrose Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season
Melrose has a diverse group of charities that could use additional support.
MELROSE, MA — If you’re like many of your Melrose neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.
Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Melrose area.
Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

- The SDM Foundation: The SDM Foundation, headquartered on 406 Main St., is an 8-person staff of volunteers dedicated to helping other nonprofits, small businesses, or individuals become more knowledgeable about technology.
- Melrose Alliance Against Violence: The MAAV has focused on addressing community members of all ages to raise awareness of issues such as domestic violence and adolescent bullying since 1995.
- A Servant’s Heart Food Pantry: The Faith Evangelical Church’s pantry located on Albion Street was founded in 1996 to help struggling families in Melrose and beyond. In 2002, St. Mary’s Church partnered with its fellow Melrose church in the effort.
- Melrose Council on Aging: The Council on Aging provides local seniors with resources, programs, services, and social opportunities in order to have a positive impact on their lives.
- Scouts BSA Troop 635: Troop 635 meets every Monday at The Incarnation Church as young Scouts go on adventures together as they work toward the prestigious rank of Eagle.
