MELROSE, MA — The unofficial results of the Melrose mayoral preliminary show City Council President Jen Grigoraitis and former councilor Monica Medeiros Solano heading to the November general election.

The 2023 mayoral race is wide open with Mayor Paul Brodeur stepping aside at the end of the year. Brodeur, a former Melrose alderman and state representative, said in April he's leaving public office to spend time with family and "finding different ways to stay involved and serve the public interest."

The three-way Melrose mayoral preliminary also featured Sam Hammar, who launched a bid for the mayor's seat a few days after Brodeur's announcement. Hammar came in third trailing Solano by less than 80 votes.
