Family
I have 3 children in the Melrose School district — Winthrop Elementary (Paige, 10), Middle (Annabella, 13), and High School (Sidney, 15). I've been married for nearly 20 years to my wife, Melissa.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?
No
Why are you seeking this office?
I believe excellent education requires us to move from ideas to actions. Melrose is a community that values education and our educators, but we struggle to fully realize our ambitions. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and have an opinion. The realities are more complex and details matter. I've spent my career looking into the details, using them to help us achieve our goals instead of being overwhelmed by them. I bring a different skill set to our challenges — financial, multi-year planning, and delivery — to complement the School Committee and move us forward.
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ________, and this is what I intend to do about it.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is a lack of shared understanding of what's going on in our School District. I intend to: 1) Listen to you, 2) Connect our shared ideas into school policies, short and long-term plans, and actionable goals. 3) Increase visibility to our goals, plans, and progress across multiple channels, 4) Communicate: Advocate for clear, concise, and regular communication.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I bring a different skill set to our challenges — financial, multi-year planning, and delivery. I connect the dots to help build a shared understanding and ensure that our ideas are realized in actions that deliver our goals.
If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?
I believe that our current committee members are all fine people, but struggle with the financial and multi-year planning aspects. This has led to a financial crunch that has undermined trust in the school committee and district. We must improve upon this.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
I'll advocate for a Scorecard that summarizes our goals and progress toward them. Regular measurement on a balanced set of KPIs ensures the right focus, on the right things.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I've led multiple operational transformation programs, realizing measurable people satisfaction, process, and financial results. Learn more at https://www.linkedin.com/in/da...
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
There's a fair price for everything. If you don't pay the fair price, you just pay more later on.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Thank you for your consideration. If you have a question, please reach out.
