MELROSE, MA — Mayor Jen Grigoraitis announced Thursday that the city has reached a one-year extension with union representatives from the Department of Public Works and city clerical workers.

The new deals extend the current three-year collective bargaining agreements to July 2026, as they were previously set to expire this coming July. Grigoraitis emphasized that it was important to extend the contracts as soon as possible due to expected budget cuts in the future.

“I’m very pleased to announce these one-year contract extensions, which ensure that our front-line city employees continue to earn fair wages while the City works to address our revenue shortfalls and develop budgets that meet our needs for the future,” Grigoraitis said in a statement.
