Melrose Football Advances to Division 3 Super Bowl

The Red Raiders will get a rematch with Dartmouth after knocking off Danvers Friday night.

The Melrose Red Raiders varsity football team advanced to the Division 3 Super Bowl for the second straight year Friday night after defeating Danvers, 24-7.

With Danvers focused in on slowing star running back Mike Pedrini, backup Jay Tyler got a chance to showcase his skills. He made the most of it, tallying 112 yards in the win, including a 79-yard touchdown scamper.

Melrose quarterback Julian Nyland ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Pedrini finished the game with 51 yards.

Melrose locked down Danvers in the second half of play after allowing over 100 yards on the ground through two quarters.

In victory, Melrose captured the Division 3 North championship. They will now have a chance to avenge last year’s 14-7 Super Bowl loss to Dartmouth.

The two rivals will square off on Dec. 5 at Gillette Stadium.
