Melrose Officials Celebrate Successful Diaper Drive
Melrose's recent diaper drive collected more than 1,000 diapers and wipes, according to a city announcement this week.
MELROSE, MA — City leaders this week celebrated the results of the second annual diaper drive by the Melrose Mayor’s Office, noting more than 1,000 diapers and wipes collected for area families.
Launched last month, this year’s diaper drive ran until Dec. 16 at the office of Mayor Paul Brodeur and at the Melrose Public Library.
Community members were invited to donate diapers and wipes. Collected goods will now go to local families through a series of community programs at MelroseWakefield Hospital, as noted in a city announcement on Tuesday.

“Diapers are critical to the well-being of infants and toddlers, and unlike formula, they are an essential need not covered by government benefits,” Brodeur said this week. “We are proud to partner with MelroseWakefield Hospital to fill this need.”
MelroseWakefield Hospital Director of Community Services Eileen Dern thanked participants in this year’s diaper drive, saying the hospital team is grateful for the local generosity.

"With so many local families struggling, the need for everyday items in our communities continues to rise, and with the help of drives such as this, we are able to provide necessities like clean, dry diapers,” Dern said.
Brodeur continued his comments, saying he was proud of community contributions. He added that he looks forward to continued collection efforts in the future.
