Melrose Symphony Orchestra Releases Season Schedule

The orchestra is entering its 108th season.

MELROSE, MA — The Melrose Symphony Orchestra announced its full schedule for its 108th season.

The Orchestra is the oldest performing volunteer orchestra in the country. Yoichi Udagawa has been the conductor since 1997. The group is headquartered at Memorial Hall on 590 Main St., with all the following performances taking place there.

The Opening Night performance will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. The orchestra will be performing Dvořák’s vibrant Symphony No. 8 and Brahms’ passionate Double Concerto. The concert features soloist Lucia Lin and cellist Owen Young.

The orchestra will return for the Annual Holiday Pops on Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. Vocalist Renese King headlines the two-day event.

The orchestra will return early three months later on March 7 for A Night at the Opera. Udagawa will teach the history of each historic operatic piece.

The Family Concert and Instrument “Petting Zoo” is slated for March 29 at 1:30 p.m. Children can get hands-on educational experiences before a family-friendly concert featuring musical pieces from Star Wars.

The season concludes with the May Pops Finale on Saturday, May 2 at 8 p.m. Internationally-famous violinist Irina Muresanu will join the orchestra to perform pieces from composers John Williams and Leroy Anderson.
