Melrose Symphony Orchestra Season Starting With Special Performance

The orchestra's newest season is beginning in early November.

MELROSE, MA — The Melrose Symphony Orchestra’s season is on the verge of kicking off, with its opening night taking place on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m.

For the inaugural performance, the orchestra will be performing Dvořák’s vibrant Symphony No. 8 and Brahms’ passionate Double Concerto. The concert features violinist Lucia Lin and cellist Owen Young as its two soloists.

Lin has been performing professionally since she was 11 years old. She has placed in international competitions. She currently works as a professor at Boston University in addition to her role with the orchestra.

Young has been a member of the orchestra for nearly 35 years. He is known for his frequent collaboration with James Taylor throughout his career. Like Lin, he also has a history of teaching his craft at the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory.

The Orchestra is the oldest performing volunteer orchestra in the country. Yoichi Udagawa has been the conductor since 1997. The group is headquartered at Memorial Hall on 590 Main St., with all the following performances taking place there.

Tickets for the opening performance can still be purchased online and the doors open at 7 p.m.
