MELROSE, MA — The COVID-19 resurgence in Massachusetts hasn't spared Melrose, which is seeing a significant increase of cases as the holidays approach.
The Department of Public Health's weekly coronavirus report — the last before Thanksgiving — was released Thursday. The virus metrics are up across the board.
Melrose has seen 103 confirmed COVID-19 cases the past two weeks, which is nearly double the number of the Oct. 28 report. Overall there have been 2,679 cases in the city since the start of the pandemic.

The city's 14-day positive test rate was 2.79 percent, more than a percentage point higher than the Oct. 28 report.
The 14-day average daily incidence rate has been steadily increasing, now sitting at 25.4.

The entire state is experiencing another surge of the pandemic, with back-to-back days of the highest confirmed case counts since before the vaccine was widely available to the general public. Thursday's report showed the highest single-week case count for schools on record.
