MELROSE, MA — The Melrose Police Department is taking part in Project Delta, in which officers are provided with unique stuffed animals that can be given to young children during crisis situations.

The nonprofit is active in 11 states throughout the country, as it partners with local police departments and its “kits” that come with five or more stuffed toys are stored in police cruisers.
“Our Officers respond to a myriad of calls on any given day and these kits will be a great tool to help comfort children during difficult times,” Melrose police said in a statement.

The stuffed animals come in durable drawstring bags, and the department believes the bags can also be used to carry children’s belongings if necessary.
