As the men were already arrested by Malden Police, DeCroteau said that Melrose Police issued summonses on charges of breaking and entering into a vehicle in the nighttime for a felony to Damon B. Heroin, Methadone and Other Drugs Discovered In Car

Saturday, June 3, 7:08 p.m. A caller reported that someone was driving erratically in the vicinity of Upham Street and Simonds Road. When Melrose Police arrived, they found the driver had already pulled over in the closed Citgo gas station on Upham Street, DeCroteau said. The driver, Anthony P. Borges, 37, 190 North St., Apt 315, Revere, consented to a search of the car and officers found heroin; the synthetic opioid methadone; the anti-depressant Trazodone; and 800-milligram dosages of Motrin, which requires a prescription in Massachusetts, DeCroteau said. Borges was subsequently placed under arrest on charges possession of a Class A drug (heroin), Class B drug (methadone), and two counts of possession of a Class E drug (Trazodone and Motrin).

Asked why Borges was not charged with operating under the influence, DeCroteau said, "I don't think the officers observed him until he had already been stopped. It may have been a situation here where they didn't observe the operation."

Underage Drinker Caught With Beer at Pine Banks

Sunday, July 4, 2:04 p.m. A Melrose Police officer on routine patrol saw a car parked at Pine Banks Park. Upon approaching the car, the officer saw a 19-year-old Melrose man with an open can of Bud Light beer, DeCroteau said, and further investigation found a small amount of marijuana, approximately "one bud." The man was issued a summons on charges of an open container of alcohol and possession of marijuana; DeCroteau explained that because another violation was recorded first, the possession of marijuana — which Massachusetts voters changed to punishable by a civil fine of $100 in November 2008 — was included in the summons.
