Saugus Man Accused of Drunk Driving in Melrose
At 1:56 a.m. Sept. 7, Melrose Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Lebanon Street. David Vernaci, 22, of 52 Boulder Road, Saugus, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor, reckless operation of a vehicle, speeding in violation of special regulation and marked lanes violation. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Sept. 5
3:58 p.m.: Lynn Fells Parkway, report of a larceny. A woman claimed that her son's trumpet was stolen.
6:09 p.m.: East Foster Street, report of a past breaking and entering.
9:57 p.m.: Hawley Road, caller reported a problem with a car in the area. A 24-year-old Maldonian was summonsed on a charge of assault and battery.
Sept. 6
8:15 a.m.: Highview Avenue, report of a coyote in the area. The coyote couldn't be located.
11 a.m.: East Highland Avenue, report of a stove fire. The fire was extinguished, and the stove removed.
11:28 a.m.: CVS Pharmacy on Main Street, report of a larceny. The caller reported that a customer forgot their wallet and another customer allegedly took it. A 26-year-old Melrose woman was summonsed on a charge of larceny under $250.
12:49 p.m.: Tremont Street, report of a stolen bike.
4:11 p.m.: Berwick Street at West Wyoming Avenue, report of a pressure cooker near the tracks on Berwick. The object turned out to be an old popcorn maker.Â
5:46 p.m.: Main Street, report of an minor motor vehicle accident near Walgreens.
6:12 p.m.: West Wyoming Avenue, report of an hypodermic needle found in the area.Â
6:20 p.m.: Whole Foods Market on Main Street, report of a shoplifter. Jayne Ciampa, 45, of 6 Glen Road, Saugus, was arrested and charged with shoplifting merchandise over $100 by concealment.
Sept. 7
11:50 a.m.: Rowe Street, report of a stolen cell phone.
Sept. 8
9:10 a.m.: Albion Street, report of a hypodermic needle found in the street. The needle was found and disposed of properly.
9:42 a.m.: Incarnation Parish on Upham Street, caller reported that money was stolen from her pocketbook.
8:14 p.m.: Main Street at Lynn Fells Parkway, report of a two-vehicle accident. No tows.Â
11:20 p.m.: Cargill Street, report of a disturbance. The caller reported that a man is screaming and swearing out of his window and door into the street. The homeowner was reportedly chasing away a raccoon.Â
