We Should Fight Abortion Bill: Letter To The Editor

A Melrose resident speaks on the legislation, which is set for a public hearing next Monday.

(Alison Bauter for Patch)

The clock is ticking to do something about the Roe Act / Infanticide bill. This bad legislation (S.1209 and H.3320) was filed this past January and will come up for a Public Hearing on Monday, June 17 th at 1pm. All men and women of good will must go to the State House and tell the Joint Judiciary Committee that they do not want this bill to pass.

This bill would radically expand abortion in Massachusetts. We would end up with late-term abortion. Doctors would no longer be required to provide medical care for newborns that survive the abortion procedure. Furthermore, parental rights would be usurped. A young, teenage, woman would be able to get an abortion without her parents’/legal guardians’ knowledge.

Finally, the procedure would not be required to be performed in a hospital. Which would be very dangerous to both the health of the mother and baby if complications arise.

So why should we fight this bill? Should not a woman who decides to go through with this be able to make the decision for herself? An important point to consider. We live in a free society.

However, living in a free society means that we are personally responsible for how our choices affect us and those around us. When you think about it, strangely, abortion is the only form of health care that is successful when a death occurs. A late-term abortion would kill a developing human that could survive with medical care. So rather than restricting a woman’s rights to have an abortion, why not make the alternative available?

Finally, it is my hope that you will attend the Hearing and let the Joint Committee know that you understand this bill is wrong and should not go forward. In the meantime, you can call the following two numbers, one which will direct you to the Senate section of the Committee and the other to the House section. For the Senate section, call: 617-722-1120. For the House section, call: 617-722-2396.

Respectfully,
