5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 18

An Open House will be held at the studios of Milford TV tonight, and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission will hold its meeting today in Boston.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. An Open House will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Milford TV studios, held in conjunction with the Blackstone Valley Art Association. It will feature artwork by Carolyn Letvin and Elizabeth Havens. Following the Open House the studio will film a Jazz Show, "Jazz from the'Combs" produced by Harry Platcow.

2. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will hold its meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday in Boston, an event live-streamed on its web site. The agenda is focused on discusion of a resort casino license for the Western Massachusetts region.

3. Friday is the deadline for students to enter the Good Citizen Scholarship program. Citizens Bank will award a total of $50,000 in scholarships. Apply for the Citizens Bank TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship by visiting its site.

4. Massachusetts State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint on a Worcester County road Saturday night, April 20 into Sunday, April 21.
