5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 19

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Tony's Place is open for business and has resumed regular hours. The restaurant is now owned and managed by Danny Demir, the son of the late Tony Demir, according to an email. Tony Demir died earlier this month after a brief illness.

2. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted Thursday 5-0 to open the Southeastern area of the state to commercial applications for a resort casino license. Up until now, the Wampanoag Tribe of Mashpee had had exclusive rights to develop a casino in that region. It wants to build a casino in Taunton, but has not yet secured federal approvals.

3. Adirondack Smoke House Deli has closed, about two years after it opened on South Main Street. The deli featured smoked meats and cheeses, and closed about a month ago.

4. The Milford Water Company expected to complete its hydrant flushing for week two on Thursday night. The next round of hydrants will be flushed beginning Sunday night.

5. The WMRC Radio First Class Fishing Derby will be Saturday, and will feature prizes for children including first fish. The derby is free and open to children and youth up to age 15. It starts at 7 a.m. at Louisa Lake. No one will be allowed to fish Friday at the lake, because it will be stocked with trout for the children's derby.
