5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 22

A moment of silence will be observed at 2:50 p.m. Monday to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. A moment of silence will be observed in Massachusetts at 2:50 p.m. Monday to remember the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. This is the time that two bombs exploded near the finish of the marathon. Milford schools will hold a moment of silence at a different point today, because the 2:50 p.m. point comes either at dismissal or after-dismissal for high school students.

2. Because of poor weather, the Earth Day cleanup of the Milford Upper Charles Trail was postponed Saturday. The new date is now April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon. The meeting place is Fino Field.

3. Absentee ballots are available at the Milford Town Clerk's office for the special state primary election and town election on April 30. The absentee ballots will be available until noon April 29. You can apply for one in person or by mailing an application to the Town Clerk’s office. Immediate family members can also complete an application on behalf of  family members.

4. The Milford Varsity Boys Volleyball team will hold a home game at 6 p.m. Monday.

5. The Milford Board of Selectmen meets at 7 p.m. Monday at Town Hall.
