5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 26

A Senior Prom for Senior Citizens will be held Friday at Milford High School, and Nik's Barber Shop has moved to a new location.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. one of the most popular events of the year at Milford High School, will be held tonight. The National Honor Society invites Milford senior citizens for a night of dancing and remembrance. The event is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are just $5 and available at the door, or at the Milford Senior Center.

2. Nik's Barbershop has vacated its space on Main Street, and will be moving to a new, garage-based location at 22 Chapin St. The business moved as of Wednesday.

3. the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, VT has a free offer: 150 free race entries for its Memorial Day marathon. “Our entire community comes together race weekend to create an atmosphere of celebration,” said KeyBank Vermont City Marathon race director Peter Delaney. “We’re opening our doors to anyone who was unable to finish Boston, so that they can realize the results of their training and continue the healing process.” The race will draw 8,000 runners, another 1,700 volunteers and approximately 30,000 spectators. Get more details here about how to register for one of the free race bibs.

4. The Milford Performing Arts Center will hold its 6th Annual Benefit Auction on Saturday. Fun, food, entertainment, raffles, and a cash bar will accompany both silent auctions and live bidding for valuable items and services, including major league sports tickets and a weekend getaway to Vermont.

5. The rescheduled Earth Day Cleanup of the Milford Upper Charles Trail is Saturday. Meet at 9 a.m. at Fino Field to help out.
