MILFORD, MA — Independence Day is here along with fireworks shows scheduled across the state — but there's a caveat this year with thunderstorms in the forecast.

The good news is that storms may be over before most fireworks shows are set to start on Tuesday. But Milford's two main July 4 events have been changed by the weather.

On Monday night, the Friends of the Milford Fourth of July Parade said the event would be canceled this year. Rain inundated the region overnight Monday, and was set to continue throughout the day.

"There are just too many factors and variables to consider. Our hearts voted 100% for the parade to go on but our logical minds regarding concern for people's safety, time and enjoyment ultimately helped with the final decision," the committee said.

The committee will hold a smaller event for children later this week.
