Local Hospital Teams Up With Milford School To Help Teens With Disabilities Find Employment
The program at UMass Memorial Health - Milford Regional Medical Center gives students internships throughout the school year.

MILFORD, MA — A program at UMass Memorial Health - Milford Regional Medical Center supports teenagers with intellectual and developmental disabilities in preparing for the future.
The Project SEARCH program gives teens with disabilities three 11-week internships during their final year of high school. With the program, in partnership with Milford High School, interns rotate through three hospital departments - food services, housekeeping and stock room.
"Project SEARCH provides students with the opportunity to build real-world job skills, gain confidence and develop independence through hands-on experiences in a supportive hospital environment while also forming meaningful relationships with co-workers and becoming members of the hospital's work family," said Michele Santangelo, Special Educator for Project SEARCH.
