Milford Firm Will Lead Construction Of New Lincoln Memorial Museum
The National Park Service on Presidents' Day revealed a $69 million Lincoln Memorial upgrade to mark 250 years of American independence.

MILFORD, MA — The Milford-based construction company Consigli will be in charge of a $69 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial, the National Park Service announced on Presidents' Day.
Consigli will start the project this spring, adding a new 15,000 square-foot museum under the Lincoln Memorial that allows visitors to view the monument's "undercroft" — a field of concrete columns that support the World War I-era structure.
"New museum exhibits and multimedia presentations will highlight the construction history of the memorial and discuss how the Lincoln Memorial has become the nation’s foremost backdrop for civil rights demonstrations. The project also includes new restrooms, a larger bookstore and a refurbished elevator to the chamber level of the memorial," the National Parks Service said in a news release.

The construction project won't be Milford's only link to the Lincoln Memorial. The town's unique pink granite was used to build portions of the monument, and there's even a slab of the granite in the Smithsonian.
The renovation of the Lincoln Memorial will be complete in 2026, in time to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
