MILFORD, MA — A downtown-area grocery store is planning a move — but not very far.

The owner of Meat Market & Grocery Store, 3 Water St., has asked the town for special permission to move the business next door to an empty office building at 5 Water St.

The owner of the 5 Water St. — the former home of the sports medicine practice Milford Orthopedics and other medical businesses — went to the Planning Board last week to seek a referral for the change to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

If approved, the grocery store would take over a 5,500 square-foot section of the former office building. The Planning Board voted unanimously on Oct. 18 to send the application to the ZBA, according to meeting minutes.

The grocery store swap will be in front of the ZBA on Nov. 10, according to the agenda.

Prior to the current grocery store and butcher, 3 Water St. was home to Our Meat Market, a Brazilian market and restaurant.
