Water Street House to be Razed Soon; Selectmen Send Treasurer Issue to TM
Here are five things to help inform your day in Milford.

1. Milford Selectmen voted 2-1 Monday to move the town in the direction of an appointed town treasurer. The issue will go to Town Meeting in the fall, and then, if Town Meeting members agree, the change will be the subject of special state legislation. The decision follows the departure of former Treasurer Barbara Auger, who left her elected seat to take a job in another town. Selectman Bill Buckley was opposed Monday, saying town voters have consistently put in qualified people.
2. The burned out house on Water Street, an eyesore for several months, should be coming down soon. The demolition contractor is awaiting action from NStar, which has to cap the gas main to the house before it can be razed.
3. Some 27 business owners in Milford and surrounding towns have signed a petition that asks Milford Selectmen to not pursue an agreement with Foxwoods Massachusetts. The petition, collected by Milford resident Peter Scandone, states that the businesses fear that the all-inclusive nature of the resort casino means that it will not provide additional traffic to the local businesses, and instead will make it harder for them to survive.
4. The Milford Selectmen, Foxwoods Massachusetts officials, and consultants will hold a meeting Wednesday at Milford High School to discuss some of the economic impacts of the project. This includes impacts on town services, such as police, fire and schools. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
5. As the world waits to find out the name of the royal baby, you may wonder: How trendy is your own name? A state database, published on Patch, allows you to check how many babies were named your name in 2012, versus previous years.
