Milford's Back To School Guide 2018

MILFORD, MA—Is it us, or do the summers feel shorter and shorter. Parents perhaps are breathing a sigh of relief, but kids and teachers are checking their calendars daily as the school year gets ready to hit. Most teachers have already headed back to prep for a few days before the children land in those desks.

Here's a guide to help you navigate the march back to the classroom.

When does school start?

The first day for students in grades 1-12 is Aug. 29; Shining Star Preschool starts on Sept. 4; kindergarten starts on Sept. 6.

School enrollment:

Student enrollment has been very stable, according to Superintendent Kevin McIntyre. The district sits at slightly above 4,200 (but that number shifts daily).

What's new?

Brookside Elementary School has a new principal: Eric Elmore. The district also has three new assistant principals this year: Caridad Lopez (Woodland Elementary School), Nadine Clifford (Stacy Middle School), and Christine Ravesi-Weinstein (Milford High School). There are 41 new teachers on board, too, this year. The district is also rolling out Chromebooks in grades 10-12 which effectively makes Milford a 1:1 environment in grades 3-12. Lisa Kingkade has been hired as the new social emotional learning director. There is a new playground at Memorial Elementary School and a new freezer at Milford High School.

"We are rolling out new STEM classes in partnership with Project Lead the Way at Milford High School," said McIntyre. "We are in the second year of a strategic plan with the focus areas of Social Emotional Learning, Equity and Access, Growth Focused Instruction, and Continuous Learning."Helpful links:
