Monday Essentials: Foxwoods MA to Meet with Milford Selectmen

Clifford the Big Red Dog will be at the library Tuesday. And Foxwoods Massachusetts will present to the Milford Selectmen Monday.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Milford Selectmen will meet Monday and the agenda includes a presentation at 7 p.m. by representatives of Foxwoods Massachusetts, which has proposed a nearly $1 billion casino off I-495 and Route 16. The presentation, expected to last 30 minutes, is designed to rebut the information provided earlier this month by the casino opposition group, Casino Free Milford. The Foxwoods document can be found on the town's casino page under correspondence.

2. Milford Selectmen on Monday also are expected to consider appointing a temporary treasurer, and discuss whether to make the position an appointed one, rather than an elected office. The former treasurer, Barbara Auger, recently left the town for a better-paid position in another town.

3. Milford Performing Arts Center will hold a summer vacation workshop this week, focusing on The Jungle Book for ages 4-7, 7-9, and 10-13. The Visual Arts Workshops run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The Performing Arts workshops are from 12:30 to 3 p.m. See the event listing for more details.
4. The Claflin Hill's Family Night at the Bandstand free concerts continue at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Milford Town Park. This week, the band is John Burrows & The Cocabanana Band. http://www.cocabananaband.com/ Bring a lawn chair, a picnic, or buy hamburgers and hot dogs on site from Nelly's Sandwich Shop.
5. Clifford the Big Red Dog will visit Milford Town Library at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. He will guide children through a reading, and sign photos. Registration is required.
