PiNZ Bowl Owner Charged After Using Gov't Money For Home, Vehicles: USAO

David Breen is accused of misappropriating more than $1.2 million in COVID-19 relief funding.

MILFORD, MA — A South Carolina businessman and owner of PiNZ in Milford was charged in federal court in Worcester with COVID relief fraud on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

David Breen, 54, of Mount Pleasant, SC, was charged with one count of theft of government property. He was accused of using more than $1.2 million in Economic Injury and Disaster Loan money from the U.S. Small Business Administration to build a home and purchase motor vehicles.

Breen applied for the funds on behalf of 'Fun Zone,' an entity that operates PiNZ, a bowling alley and entertainment venue in Milford, according to the USAO.

He agreed to use the loan proceeds as working capital for his business, but instead he built himself a home in Mount Pleasant, purchased a $111,000 truck, and put a down payment on a $98,289 Mercedes, the USAO said.

Breen faces up to 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
