WATCH: Piglets Born At Natick Organic Farm

Owners say customers look forward to the birth of pigs every spring.

NATICK, MA—Twelve piglets were born on Monday evening, April 2, at Natick Community Organic Farm.

"All have spots, so they are particularly cute," Trish Umbrell, farm administrator, told Patch.

It is the second sow to have a litter this spring, the other giving birth on Feb. 26.

"The older piglets are outside the barn the animal house next door to the chickens," said Unbrell.

We wondered, too, so we asked: what will become of these piglets?

"We will keep 3-4 piglets as feeder pigs, raise them well, and have them slaughtered in the fall, when they are full grown, for bacon, pork chops, etc." said Umbrell. "We will sell the rest to neighboring farms to raise. People who know that our pigs generally birth in early spring have been anxiously awaiting news of the births. I'm always impressed by the 10 through 12 -year-olds who pluck up the courage to call the Farm's main line and ask for an update."
